24 Port Fast Ethernet Web Management Switch ST3224

Below is our box opening experience, You will see the router also includes a standard serial cable for the switch.

Features:

  • 24 10/100Mbps RJ45 ports
  • Plug and play, Auto-Negotiation, Auto MDI/MDIX detection
  • 4.8 Gbps switching fabric capacity
  • Supports 4K MAC address table
  • Quick and easy setup with Web-based management page
  • Supports port configuration, including speed, duplex and flow control
  • Supports 802.1q VLAN
  • Supports QoS, Port Bandwidth Control
  • Supports IGMP Snooping
  • Supports port mirroring to monitor the incoming or outgoing traffic on a particular port
  • Supports Broadcast Storm Control
  • Steel desktop design, with internal power supply

For installation you can use a serial port connection but the switch’s management VLAN does default to DHCP so you can avoid this altogether. The switch comes with remote browser access and the interface is common to all managed HP switches. A comprehensive alert log offers plenty of advice about network problems, the likely causes and suggestions for remedial action while above is a bar graph showing general port activity.

During testing we found the switch’s cooling fan to be very non obtrusive which is relief compared to the cis** model I was currently using at one of our satellite locations.

Typical competition to this switch comes from products such as 3Com’s. It costs around $120 orless but the stronger access controls and superior management tools make the Netis switch worth a lot more and comes in at $90 on amazon.

Pros:

– Low Cost at only $90 on Amazon
– Intuitive User Interface
– Includes Rack brackets and Serial Cable
– Rugged

Cons:

– Wish it was 10/100/100 and not just 10/100
