Companies are beginning a new trend of inexpensive Android gaming consoles that are getting smaller and smaller – to the point that it is about as big as a pack of gum, like Bluestacks’ Gamepop Mini. The Gamepop Mini is Bluestacks’ latest innovative console that aims to be the “Netflix of gaming.”
Bluestacks has announced that the console will follow the Netflix route for a subscription-based strategy, where having the device is free assuming you commit to a 1-year subscription to the company’s online gaming service at $7 per month. However, while it is free after 1 year, the console is useless – like Netflix – without subscribing to Bluestacks’ library of over 500 popular mobile games. However, if you return the Gamepop before the 12 months are up, you will need to pay a $25 restocking fee.
Even more interesting is Bluestacks’ Looking Glass, which is the company’s own custom technology that allows iOS-based apps to run and play through Gamepop Mini and on a TV instead of being exclusively for Apple products.
Bluestacks has not yet announced a release date for the Gamepop Mini, but has said it aims to launch this winter.
