CrazyOnDigital Hard Acrylic Case for PS Vita Review

I’m back with another review of inexpensive PS Vita accessory I found over at Amazon. It’s called the CrazyOnDigital Hard Acrylic Case for Sony PlayStation PS Vita and the price is under $6 without shipping which isn’t too bad but sadly I think that’s about all this case is worth really. Overall I guess the case isn’t bad, it does seem to be able to protect the Vita adequately but the case just feels and looks rather cheap honestly; maybe I was expecting too much for something that costs so little. The Review::

The case arrived to me in soft plastic envelope, no padding or nothing with it to protect it during shipment.

Inside was the case in a plastic bag.

The case is black with gray and chrome accents. The only chrome is the shiny circle on the top which is glue on but not too well as it was coming off when I opened the packaged. The case does features dual zipper to make access a bit easier.

The case is called the ‘Hard Acrylic Case for Sony PlayStation PS Vita’ but I don’t really see any acrylic here. To me acrylic is hard like plastic as it is basically plastic. The case itself is semi-hard really as it does give a bit when you push down on it. I’ve always thought acrylic was very hard but this case looks and feels more like vinyl to me. I just don’t think the description is very accurate and someone ordering it is not going to get what they expect to get, like me.

When you open the case you’ll find a carabineer that can be attached to a loop on the rear edge.

The bottom part of the case, where the PS Vita would fit has two elastic strap to hold it in place and a soft micro fiber lining for protection. There’s a also a ‘trap door’ on the bottom for access to the rear touchscreen or panel while the PS Vita is in the case.

The top section of the case has a padded flap that is used to protect the screen. When you fold the flap down you’ll find two mesh pockets on the flap itself  and a large single pocket on the actual case lid.

Here’s the bottom of the case, the trap door is held with velcro. The idea here is so you can use the Vita while it’s in the case including the rear touch panel.

Here’s my PS Vita with the case, the case isn’t much bigger than the Vita really.

Then here’s my Vita in the case, it just slides in under the elastic straps. The straps seem to do a decent job of holding the Vita in place, but they do feel a bit loose honestly.

Here’s a couple closer shots of the straps and where they sit on the Vita. The straps sit just on the edge of the screen and shouldn’t interfere with it or any of the buttons and controls.

You can carry extra games with you in the smaller mesh pockets but I’m not sure I would as they’re not exactly secure in there and they can just slip right out of the top. I don’t know what else you could really carry in there  though.

I put the Vita USB Cable into the top pocket but with it in there it made the case slightly hard to close and it does push down on the Vita. The protective flap though should protect the Vita. I guess you could carry headphones in the larger pocket if you wanted to, but not much else and surely nothing with any bulk to it.

Here’s the bottom view of the trap door with the Vita in the case, it seems fine to use this way as it does offer complete access to the panel.

Using the Vita while it’s in the case can be awkward feeling as the top part just hangs there and you can’t exactly move it out of the way. It’s too stiff to fold under the case, and then if you did that you wouldn’t be able to use the rear touch panel so you’re stuck with the large top section just hanging there. It just feels awkward to me.

Conclusion:

So that’s the case and personally I just don’t like, it feels and looks ‘generic’ and cheap to me, but that’s just my opinion.  The case should do an adequate job of protecting the PS Vita sure, and you can use the the Vita while it’s in the case with no problems as it offers full access including the rear touch panel.  There are three pockets for accessories and game cartridges but the tight fit of the case limits what you can really put in the pockets. If you’re putting your game carts in the smaller pockets they aren’t really secure as they can just slide right out.

For the price though I guess it’s not bad especially if you’re on a budget, but I won’t be using it for my Vita except for maybe storage or transport. I do have the official PS Vita case and while it doesn’t offer the protection like this case might I think I like it better overall.
