It is official: Google will be entering the smartwatch arena with Android Wear. This new operating system has been designed specifically for wearable devices, giving Google the chance to move into a leading position with wearables. As seen in the video below, this watch can be useful during all daily activities.
The new operating system will bring together many of the useful features that are seen in Google’s mobile system, along with new features for the wearables. In addition to Google Now, Android Wear will also include fitness elements that will provide speed, distance, and time information for workouts. And to make the watch even more useful while on the move, Google Maps is built in for navigation and mapping.
With Google Now featured in the watches, users will also be able to use the “OK Google” voice commands. This means that they will be connected to their smartphone, and will receive notifications as they desire and send commands to the phone.
Companies like Fossil and other fashion brands will be working to create watches for the operating system, ensuring that these wearables not only work well, but they look good too.
Google is working with companies like HTC, LG, and Motorola (to name a few) to have the watches available in the second quarter of this year.
