Kinect has eyes everywhere

If you have a Microsoft Kinect in your house, there may have been one or more instances of slight paranoia surrounding the ever watching gadget. South Korean programmer Jae Kwan Ko has designed a system that will be used for just that purpose: surveillance at the Demilitarized Zone border in Korea.

On Monday, Kotaku reported that Ko designed the system that will be used to monitor border crossings by anything living. This system, though, will be able to determine the differences between an animal and a human. If a human is detected, the authorities will be alerted. Reportedly, Ko was unaware that his software would be used by the government, saying “I’ve never even thought of a game system performing national defense tasks.” Soon, it seems that the unit will be upgraded to an Xbox One, which can detect heartbeats.
