LG Taking Pre-Order for Its 55-inch OLED TV

LG announced that it will start taking pre-orders for its 55-inch OLED television. The 55-inch television was first unveiled at the 2012 CES. LG has become the world’s first company to bring a big-screen next-generation TV to market.

LG said the 55-inch TVs, which use a technology called “OLED” will be delivered in South Korea in February and in March  in North America, Europe, and the rest of Asia in March. Prices for the TV will be released in the next few weeks.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to make this announcement at the start of the new year because we believe that OLED will usher in a whole new era of home entertainment,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Not since color TV was first introduced 60 years ago has there been a more transformational moment. When high definition TV was first introduced 15 years ago, the public’s reaction was ‘wow!’ but when customers see our razor-thin OLED TV for the first time, they’re left speechless. That’s a clear indicator as any that OLED TV is much more than just an incremental improvement to current television technology.”

The TV is using OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) and feature images with enhanced clarity, deeper color saturation, and sharper contrast. It also features a four-pixel system WRGB which stands for White-Red-Green-Blue. The TV weighs less than 22 pounds and 0.16 inches thin.
