Microsoft announced its new music initiative to take on iTunes and streaming services, such as Spotify and Rdio. The new Xbox Music is a streaming service free on Windows 8 PCs and phones. It will also offer a Pandora-style Smart DJ feature to make artist-specific “stations.”
As the service expands from the Xbox 360 to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 its cloud-based connectivity will allow access to playlists and music collections across devices. When Xbox Music hits Xbox 360 as a system update, users can apply for a free 30-day trial of Xbox Music after that it will be $9.99 monthly and will give users access to on-demand streaming library of 18 million.
