Microsoft Rumored To Be Working On 7 inch Xbox Gaming Tablet

The Verge is reporting that Microsoft is building a 7-inch Xbox gaming tablet.  It follows rumors in June that the company was creating a new product, called the Xbox Surface, specifications for the device include a multi-touch 7-inch LED screen, with a resolution of 1280 x 720, four USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot and a processor with 288MB of RLDRAM 2.

The report cites multiple sources who say they are “familiar with plans within Redmond” and can confirm that the initial hardware planning for the Xbox Surface is already underway. The site also claimed that the new tablet will run a custom Windows kernel, rather than the full version of Windows 8.

If Microsoft is really working on the final implementation of the Xbox Surface, an obvious date for such an announcement would be E3 2013 in June.  Could Microsoft really be working on a tablet designed specifically for gamers?
