Motorola bought by Lenovo, but Google keeps a little

(Credit: Motorola)

Google has confirmed that Motorola Mobility has been sold to Lenovo for $2.9 billion. After purchasing Motorola back in 2011, Google has now sold the handset company. However, Google hasn’t cut all ties with Motorola. The patents and the Advanced Technology and Projects group with continue to stay with Google. This means that Project Ara, the modular phone project that the Advanced Technology group had been working on will remain in Google’s hands. This project works with a modular, customizable plan for handsets that will allow the user to add in the components they would like for their phone, and leave out anything else.

Hopefully Google will continue to take this idea and other projects of the Advanced Technology group to fruition.
