New symmetrical USB coming soon

Plugging in a USB cable may be one of the most frustrating endeavors in the current age. Even if the first try didn’t work, continuous flipping and finagling won’t ensure that the second, third, or twelfth try will be successful. But the universal struggle may have an end in sight.

The new USB Type-C cable, whose specifications will be finalized in July of this year, will be smaller than current USBs and, thankfully, symmetrical.

The new cable aims to replace both standard USB and Micro USB. It will still support USB 3.0, and adapters will be produced so existing USB cables can continue to be used.

Though the final specifications and images haven’t been settled yet, the USB Implementers Forum has released illustrations for the expected design.
