Sony Introduces its FMP-X1 Ultra Media Player
Sony has just revealed that its recently announced FMP-X1 4K Ultra HD Media Player will hit shelves by July 15th. The media player will be exclusively compatible with Sony’s line of 4K TVs with a price point of $699 and will come preloaded with a 10-pack of 4K films (including The Amazing Spiderman, Ghostbusters, and The Karate Kid). However, owners of certain X900A systems will be pleased to know that they qualify for a $200 discount. Sony is offering free in-home setup and activation, arranged through the 4KActivation.com page upon the site’s launch on July 8th.
Also to be released is Sony’s anticipated video distribution service – Video Unlimited 4K – which will launch in the fall on a monthly fee-based subscription, offering TV shows, movies, and other short films from Sony and other major production houses. Feature films will require a $7.99 fee for a 24-hour rental, or a $29.99 download purchase.
The FMP-X1 4K Ultra HD Media Player is available right now for pre-ordering on the Sony Style online store, and is expected to hit other retailers soon.
