Twitter introduced Vine, an app that allows users to share six second videos on the service and in embedded tweets, Twitter says it “inspires creativity” in a way similar to tweets. The app also allows you to share these short videos on Facebook.
Posts on Vine are about abbreviation the shortened form of something larger. They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life,” says Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann. “They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special.
The Vine app is now available for iPhone and iPod touch in the App Store. Users are not require to have a Twitter account to use Vine, but the sign-up process for Vine is quicker for existing Twitter users. Twitter says that it’s working to bring Vine to other platforms, but it didn’t offer any further details.
